Portugal Has 5th Most Valuable Passport in the World
Portugal maintains the 5th position in the ranking of the most valuable passports in the world, tied with Ireland.
A Portuguese passport allows holders to visit 187 countries in free transit, reveals the new update of “The Henley Passport Index”.
Similar to what happened in the last quarter of last year, marked by the pandemic, the Portuguese passport maintains the fifth position in the ranking of the most valuable passports in the world in 2022. There are only 13 countries whose passports give access to visit more countries without a prior visa.
Japan and Singapore are the countries with the most valuable passports in the world, allowing them to travel to 192 countries in free transit. In second place are Germany and South Korea (both with access to 190 countries). Still on the podium, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg and Spain occupy 3rd place.
Austria, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and Sweden follow. The passports of these countries allow holders of this document to travel to 188 countries without a previous visa, which places them in the fourth position in the ranking, ahead of Portugal and Ireland.
On the other hand, Afghanistan is the worst-placed, as this passport only allows access to 26 countries. This country thus occupies the 111th position in the ranking, followed by Iraq (allows free transit access to 28 countries) and Syria (29 countries).
The index evaluates the world's most influential passports each quarter based on data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and includes 199 different passports and 227 international destinations.
